Bring your own agent: why Fondoo doesn't sell AI credits

Most AI business tools sell you their model by the credit. We decided not to. Here's what that means for pricing, quality and lock-in.

TL;DR

  • Fondoo doesn't sell AI credits or AI content quotas. You use the agent you already have: Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, Claude Code or any MCP client.
  • Pages, posts and newsletters your agent writes are unlimited. There's no per-page or per-post charge for supplied content.
  • Fondoo does the parts that aren't writing: content planning, duplicate and quality checks, approvals, publishing, scheduling, distribution and measurement.
  • Pricing stays simple: $24/site/month, plus a few usage extras. See /pricing.

When we planned pricing, the obvious move was an AI add-on: so many AI pages a month, so many AI posts, buy more when you run out. We had the tiers drafted. We launched without them.

Why we don't sell AI

You already pay for an agent

If you're reading this, you probably pay for ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor or something similar. Selling you a second, worse-fitting model with its own meter means paying twice for the same thing.

Credit meters change how you work

When every page costs a credit, you start rationing: fewer drafts, fewer rewrites, fewer experiments. That's the opposite of what helps a small business. With your own agent, a sixth rewrite costs you nothing extra from us.

The best model changes every few months

Models improve fast and leapfrog each other. If your business tools are tied to one vendor's model, you wait for them to switch. With your own agent, you switch the day something better ships, and Fondoo's tools work the same.

It keeps us honest about what we're for

Our job is the business plumbing: hosting, payments, SEO, social, email, support, analytics. Being good at that matters more than having the flashiest built-in writer.

What "bring your own agent" looks like

You connect your agent to Fondoo once over MCP (or call the REST API from scripts, n8n, Zapier or Make). Then the agent writes and Fondoo publishes.

A blog page your agent wrote:

create_pages({ siteId, mode: "supplied", items: [{
  planned: { /* keyword, path, intent from the content plan */ },
  article: { title: "How to price a SaaS plan", markdown: "...", meta: "..." }
}] })
approve_pages({ siteId, pageIds: [pageId] })

When an agent calls approve_pages, you get the final say: publishing waits for your approval unless you've turned on auto-publish, and approved pages go out on a daily drip schedule.

Social posts your agent wrote:

schedule_social_posts({ siteId, variants: [
  { accountId: linkedinId, text: "..." },
  { accountId: blueskyId, text: "..." }
] })

A newsletter your agent wrote:

create_newsletter_issue({ siteId, subject: "What shipped in November", markdown: "..." })
send_newsletter({ siteId, issueId, segment: "all" })

Supplied content doesn't use any allowance. Write ten pages or a thousand.

What Fondoo does around the writing

Writing is maybe a fifth of content work. The rest is where things go wrong, and that's what Fondoo handles:

  • Planning from real demand. gsc_opportunities finds queries where you already rank in positions 8 to 20 or get impressions without clicks. Your agent turns those into a plan with update_content_plan, and demand evidence is checked again before pages publish.
  • Quality and safety checks before anything publishes:
    • near-duplicate detection against your existing and pending pages;
    • source fetching for claims and comparisons;
    • prohibited-claim checks from your brief;
    • link and structure checks, title and meta length.
  • Approvals. Publishing in bulk, emailing a list or anything that deletes goes through you.
  • Publishing and distribution. Hosting, sitemaps, Search Console, social scheduling with caps, newsletter sending with suppression.
  • Measurement. Tracked links on every post and email, so you can see which piece of content led to which signup and payment.

"Can't Fondoo just write it for me?"

If you'd rather Fondoo's own generation tools do the writing, add your own AI key with update_ai_settings. Fondoo then runs its drafting tools on your key. Usage is between you and your AI provider; we don't meter it or mark it up.

At launch, Fondoo doesn't call any model on its own key. That includes the support widget: it searches your help center and turns unanswered questions into tickets, and your agent drafts the replies over MCP (or n8n and Zapier through the ticket.created webhook). Add your own key and the widget can answer and draft directly.

In the dashboard, "Ask your agent" hands the task to your own agent with a ready prompt (get_agent_prompt), rather than to a model we run.

What this means for pricing

Because we don't resell AI, the plan is the same for everyone who uses it:

  • $24/site/month for sites 1 to 3, $20 for sites 4 to 10, $17 for sites 11 to 50;
  • every tool included, with unlimited seats and agents;
  • usage extras: emails over 5,000 per site at $0.60 per 1,000, X link posts at $0.50 each, extra social sets at $3/month;
  • a 1% fee on Fondoo checkout;
  • a 7-day trial for $0 (card required).

There's no AI tier to upgrade into and no credit balance to watch. Details on /pricing.

Which agents work?

Anything that speaks MCP over HTTP, or anything that can make an HTTP request:

  • Chat apps: ChatGPT, Claude, and other MCP-capable assistants. See starting a business from ChatGPT.
  • Coding agents: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and others, which can also open pull requests against your app. See making a Lovable app paid.
  • Automation tools: n8n, Zapier and Make through the REST API and webhooks.
  • Your own scripts and backends, with a scoped Fondoo API key.

Agents can discover what's available with find_tools, which searches every operation by name, description or category.

The tradeoff

Bringing your own agent means you need one, and the quality of the writing depends on it. If you want an AI that decides what to do and does it without you directing it, that's a different kind of product. We compared the two approaches in Fondoo vs Polsia.

FAQ

Is agent-written content really unlimited?

Yes. Pages, posts and newsletters your agent supplies have no quota and no per-item charge. Normal usage extras still apply to sending, like emails over 5,000 per site or paid X link posts.

Do I need an AI API key?

No. Your chat or coding agent does the writing. An API key is optional, only if you want Fondoo's own drafting tools to run on your account.

Will Fondoo add paid AI later?

We may offer it as an option after launch. Bringing your own agent will keep working, and supplied content will stay unlimited.

Does my content still get checked if I write it myself?

Yes. Supplied pages go through duplicate, source, claim, link and structure checks, plus your approval rules.
